Their story…
Other Parents Like Me (OPLM) is an online parent-to-parent support community designed for parents of teens living with a mental illness.
The community supports parents and caregivers of children who experience anxiety, depression, substance use, or an eating disorder, and provides a safe place to remind caregivers that they are not alone.
Although mental health disorders are becoming less stigmatized in most societies, it can still be difficult to find accurate and accessible information from experts. To help address this issue, OPLM offers a large database of resources that caregivers can use for education on what their children may be experiencing and how they can support them. Along with the resource hub, OPLM offers roughly 15 peer-led support groups per week, a weekly guest speaker, and monthly expert panel.
Our society is in the midst of a mental health epidemic, with an increasing amount of people living with a mental illness or being impacted by the experiences of loved ones.
In America, about one in every seven kids aged 5 to 17 underwent some form of mental health treatment in 2021, the latest year for which statistics are available (CDC).
As a parent or caregiver of a child with mental health or substance abuse disorders, it can be challenging to navigate how to best support and find the appropriate resources for your child. Mental health treatments are not a “one size fits all” solution and can take weeks, months, or years to find a treatment plan that works for each individual. Being the support system for a struggling child can impact your own mental health and a support group can help create a place for comfort and education.
How we worked together…
Riveo Creative worked with OPLM to share the stories of parents and caregivers who have children who live with mental health or alcohol use disorders
We used remote video to create two videos for OPLM, an explainer video and a fundraising video. Remote video is a cost-effective, sustainable way to make video. Although we record remotely, clients are guided through the process by one of our team members to create a high-quality final product.
When discussing sensitive and personal topics, video is one of the best medians to effectively communicate and convey these stories and ultimately make a bigger impact on the audience.
The videos supported OPLM’s campaign in raising $60,000 which allows the organization to continue their mission in creating a community for parents and guardians where they don’t need to worry about any financial obligations that could restrict their ability to receive the help and support the group provides.
In addition to helping achieve fundraising goals, the videos we created contributed to developing OPLM’s brand, increasing awareness for the organization, and establishing their position in the wellness and recovery community.
At Riveo Creative, we believe in taking a sustainable approach to content creation, which includes repurposing and strategically using pre-existing content to maximize your ROI. From our original video, we created a version that the OPLM team attaches in their e-signature to make the video accessible to anyone who contacts them. The video was also edited into multiple shorter clips for use on social media and their website.
We are so happy to have the opportunity to work with OPLM and create videos that helped such an impactful organization. We highly encourage anyone who would benefit from this support group to visit their website at oplm.com.
