Embarking on our sustainability journey has been both enlightening and rewarding. Throughout this past year especially, we’ve gained valuable insights into our strengths and areas for growth, and one of our standout moments was our first attempt at securing an EcoVadis certification. We chose to be assessed using the EcoVadis framework because it’s based on a deep dive into Environmental, Social, and Governance measures. At Riveo, we strongly believe that everything we do has the potential to affect change, and we want to use the tools available to us to make sure we’re catalysts for positive impact. Using the EcoVadis framework has encouraged us by showing us what we’re doing right and has provided vital feedback on areas of improvement, as we seek to be in full alignment with our core values!
What is EcoVadis?
EcoVadis offers a way to evaluate how well a company is performing in terms of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria compared to others in the same sector. According to their website, “The EcoVadis platform helps you manage ESG risk and compliance, meet corporate sustainability goals, and drive impact at scale by guiding the sustainability performance improvement of your company and value chain.” They award Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum medals based on a company’s ESG performance percentile (measured via a scoring system of 0 -100) and provide a Commitment Badge for companies that score above 45 but haven’t yet qualified for a medal. EcoVadis is becoming a crucial tool for businesses looking to partner with responsible suppliers and will only become more widely recognized and utilized over the next few years.
How Does the EcoVadis Process Work?
The EcoVadis assessment process varies depending on factors like sector, location, and company size. Riveo is considered an extra small company, and so we received a tailored questionnaire designed for businesses of our size and sector in the United States.
Over the past year, we’ve been busy developing and implementing sustainability policies, creating key performance indicators (KPIs) related to our environmental goals, participating in relevant training, and tracking our carbon footprint. At the end of 2024, we compiled our documents and completed the EcoVadis questionnaire with all our supporting information.
What Was Our Score?
We’re thrilled to share that as of January 2024, Riveo Creative has earned the Commitment Badge with a sustainability score of 56, placing us in the 64th percentile among similar businesses! This “good” rating is a great starting point, and we’re even more excited about the potential for growth. With a clearer understanding of what’s needed for our next application in 2025, we’re focusing on better documentation, more precise measurement of energy consumption and waste, and making a tangible positive impact on our environment. We’ve already started acting on the feedback we received and can’t wait to share the many ways we’re evolving to give our best in sustainability!
